Dara Foster, Pet Fashion Stylist from Pupstyle and Jorge Bendersky, Celebrity Dog Groomer gave Godfrey, a Bishon-Poodle mix a makeover. Tokidoki Artist Simone & Me

I’m totally into the vinyl toy craze now and with the recession, it’s the only way for me to get my shopping fix on without breaking the bank. It only becomes slightly expensive when you become obsessed with having all in a series and you can’t stop buying blind boxes, just to complete the set. For those that don’t know how this works, most of the toys are sold in boxes that are sealed and you don’t know exactly which toy you are going to get. This opens the collecting craze to trading with other fanatics like yourself. I think it’s fun not knowing what I will get.

So, this past weekend I went to a very cool gallery and tea cafe named Royal/T to meet the Italian Artist, Simone Legno for Tokidoki and have a spot of tea. The gallery is a great space and the cafe is modeled after Japanese cosplay cafes where the waitresses dress up as maids.

When you only weigh 5 lbs., the little things YOU take for granted can be a menace to little guys like ME.

Let me demonstrate…

YOU: Snuggled up all sleepy and warm under the fluffy down comforter.

ME: Snuggled up all sleepy and warm on top of the fluffy down comforter.

YOU: Flipping your sleepy warm body from one side to the other.

ME: A 5 lb. limp sleepy chihuahua hurling into the air and onto the floor with a startling thump…

YOU: “what was that…?”

ME: “uh…hello? more like, WHO was that!”

Aye Bendito! Any suggestions???

What’s another arrest for Shepard Fairey but great press for a once underground graffiti artist. Fairey was arrested “again” entering a new exhibition of his work in Boston…he was going to be a guest D.J. for the opening. How cool is that? And you’re responsible for making pop art out of Barack Obama. I’m sure he’s saying, “bring it on!”

Now eveyone knows about the exhibit and the Institute of Contemporary Art is ecstatic!!! Yay!

Claude Monet’s, “Water Lily Pond” sold for over $80 million dollars at a Christie’s auction today. I had the opportunity to see one of the water lily paintings from the collection, painted in 1919, at the Tate Modern in London. In particular, the water lily paintings have a luminosity to them that is almost hypnotizing and very peaceful. Your blood pressure can drop just sitting in a room with one.

Mid-Century Modern Architecture

I am on the hunt for a new place to live which reminds me how much I love the “post and beam” construction of mid-century modern architecture. Los Angeles is the perfect place to live with any chance of getting your hands on one of these minimalistic works from a modern master such as Neutra, Schindler, Koenig, Eichler to name a few. What makes these structures so beautiful is the seamless transition from inside to outside, creating harmony with the landscape.

Born in Vienna, Austria, in 1892, moved to the United States by 1923. He worked briefly for Frank Lloyd Wright before accepting an invitation from his close friend and university companion Rudolf Schindler to work and live communally in Schindler’s Kings Road House in California.

Pet memorials

1st Century AD Cat Mummy, British Museum, London, England

During the time I lived in London, I spent many hours in the British Museum and more specifically in the Egyptian Mummy exhibit which is the most extensive collection in the world. I was fascinated by the cat mummies. It made me think, why not continue to do this today? I could see memorializing ELVIS and Izzy this way with a beautiful sarcophagus. Up until recently, the memorials and urns for pets were seriously ugly and nothing I would want my pet inside of. I started thinking about the mummy idea again after seeing an article on a glass blower who makes pendants with ashes of the deceased swirled on the inside. He has a lot of requests to do the same for people’s pets. I also really love the hand painted urns made from hollowed out gourds that Hungry Holler does, shown below.

BANKSY

I became interested in BANKSY after seeing his graffiti in L.A.
At first, it seemed humourous to me but when I saw more of his work,
it began to have a profound effect on me. His graffiti crosses over into
performance art on the sly. You can find more BANKSY videos on
YouTube with some pretty amazing stunts caught on hidden cameras.
