It’s 2010 and I’m still here…blind as a bat, yet feisty as ever! I guess this is a good time to let everybody know what has been happening in my life. There has been some speculation on my Facebook Chi WOW WOW Fan Page and I owe it to my friends to set things straight. So here goes…

No one except me knows my real age so let’s just say I’m no spring chicken but I have lived several lives, one hard one and the current one, blissful. “My Lady” rescued me from a rescue when I was totally down on my luck and 24 hours from being put to death. I pulled all the stops that day and it worked, she “My Lady” as I refer to her, walked through the PetSmart door, took exactly 6 steps (yes, I counted), looked down at me, and it was all over, LOVE at first sight. TRUE LASTING LOVE I will tell you DOES exist and we are proof of that. In fact, many of you know that, having similar stories like ours.

It has been 7 years but seems like a lifetime that we have been together. I wasn’t supposed to live to see the new year and “My Lady” got this crazy idea that she would rent an RV and drive to Texas so we could all be together for my last hurrah! You see, it was in June that I suddenly lost my eyesight, I mean…I went outside to go to the bathroom and on the way back in, I couldn’t see jack. I saw several Doctors, one being a Veterinary Retinologist, nice lady who was smitten with me, I might add. She concluded that I had an unexplained immune mediated response where my own body’s defense system attacked the retinas of my eyes, and they detached. I didn’t regain my sight even after a course of high dose steroids. So no biggy…all seemed A-ok until several months later I had a pretty bad seizure, one lasting over an hour in the middle of the night. By morning “My Lady” and I were exhausted and she was dreading going to the Vet. Our Vet, “Vandy” as I refer to him, delivered some pretty bad news. “My Lady” knew in her heart before he said it…”I’m afraid, ELVIS has a brain tumor.” I heard her ask the dreaded questions, “will he be in pain?” and “how long will he live?” and “isn’t there anything we can do?” and…and…and…………

And so…I’m on a whooping dose of phenobarbitol twice daily and other than it makes me a little loopy, it keeps my seizures under control. We are almost to the maximum allowable dose and Vandy says there is one more drug we can add when we get to the limit but here I am, sleeping peacefully and happily by “My Lady’s” side in an RV park, somewhere in Malibu, listening to the rain and the waves pounding on the beach…defying the odds.

Maybe it’s the constant stream of love from everyone that knows me, the positive vibes, the well wishes, the RV, the trip to Texas, naps in the sunshine…

or…

Maybe the Universe still needs something from me??? I don’t have the answer, but it’s 2010 and I still here, so…

YOU: Flipping your sleepy warm body from one side to the other.

ME:  A 5 lb. limp sleepy chihuahua hurling into the air and onto the floor with a startling thump…

YOU:  <groggy> “what was that…?”

ME:  <dazed & confused>  “uh…hello? more like, WHO was that!”

Happy Birthday ELVIS!

IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO!

I’m willing to pay a little more if I have to….what about you?

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1 egg (slightly beaten)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup peanut butter (chunky)
3 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour
1/2 cup oats
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl mix water, pumpkin, egg, vanilla, and peanut butter thoroughly. In a large bowl combine flour, oats, baking powder, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Mix wet and dry ingredients together and stir well. Spoon into a greased mini muffin pan, making sure to fill each cup completely and piled high. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until firm (but not too brown). Cool completely and refrigerate.
Makes 30 mini pupcakes

Well surprisingly the Disney movie “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” was #1 in the box office for this past weekend.

I’m all about peace, love and harmony which is why I support Barack Obama.
Please get out and cast a VOTE on November 4. Your chihuahua will love you for it!

Don’t you think Chi WOW WOW should be on the red carpet for this movie premier? I would say that if we don’t receive an invite, then the Disney creators of this movie are clearly out of touch. We live in Los Angeles…less than 5 miles from Disney studios…no doubt, someone during the making of the movie googled the word chihuahua and came across Chi WOW WOW?

Where’s my PR Agent when I need them!!!

Chihuahuas eveywhere I look…the movies, Milkbone boxes and the Los Angeles Times. Eli, chihuahua belonging to Karen Biehl of NYC won the Milkbone small biscuit contest and will be on the front of the box for the next year. ELVIS entered that contest too but didn’t really have the Milkbone look. Little did they know that he is missing half his teeth and has trouble eating the biscuits…we had to submit a picture with his mouth closed! A couple of weeks ago the L.A. Times published this article, “Chihuahuas reign as Los Angeles County’s most popular dog breed”. “L.A.’s Top Dogs,” a new database compiled by the Los Angeles Times and launched this week on its website provides facts and figures on more than half a million registered dogs in Los Angeles County.

The flip side of all this attention is the sad fact that the popularity leads to large numbers of the breed in rescues and shelters, needing homes. Top this with the Disney film, “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” coming out October 3, and we are looking at a chihuahua population explosion.

“We get an awful lot of Chihuahuas,” said Ed Boks, general manager of the city’s Department of Animal Services. “The big concern is that Disney is coming out with a movie called ‘Beverly Hills Chihuahua’ . . . . It will just encourage the breeding of Chihuahuas when we’ve already got too many out there.”

What I do see that is very positive, is that people tend to own multiple chis because of their size and many are from rescues like my ELVIS and Izzy. I can only ask this of anyone wanting a chihuahua, to check out their local shelters and rescues first before buying a chihuahua from a breeder or store. You just might be surprised at what you fall in love with. After all, I now have a full fledged, internationally known brand because of my 5 lb. rescued chihuahua and celebri-dog, ELVIS!

In Los Angeles, there are only a few thunder storms a year and living in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains, you can practically be in the storm itself. Now there are 3 things ELVIS is terrified of, windshield wipers, the kitchen and thunder storms. Oddly enough, when he is freaked about a storm, he goes in the kitchen? So, during the storm and thunder and hail, there was this huge crack! and we all let out a little screech. Izzy just took off somewhere and I looked in the back to see if the greenhouse (studio) was still there…it was. Then I looked for ELVIS. And I looked in all the usual places, the kitchen of course, the bathroom corner and the pet crate in the bedroom. No ELVIS… Then I get a little panicky because I know he just tries to get away from the problem and I thought maybe he got outside and was heading for the plains. Lo and behold, I found him in the bookcase and he sort of blended in. I tucked him in his Woody Wood Pecker blanket and as quickly as the storm came, it was gone.

Well we went out for a saturday morning walk over by the golf course near to the house and as we were crossing the parking lot I spotted it. Against the blacktop landscape it had the appearance of a flying saucer but I knew it was definately, of this world. I ran out ahead to the end of my retractable leash and could now see the object in full delicious view. It was simply, a pancake, puffy and golden brown, and slightly round. But was this just any pancake? Ohhh nooo! It was HUGEaMONGUS! And, untouched by any knife, fork or mouth. It was a “random” pancake and it was all mine, mine, mine!!!

Elvis…EL-vis…ELVIS!!!

HUH?
WHAT?! I replied.

What the? Is that a pancake?
<faint voice getting louder>

Yup. a random one, I replied.
The odd thing is that this pancake was totally solitary. No syrupy residue, no plate or napkin nearby. Who made it? Where did it come from? Did it just fall from the sky? Who would be crazy enough to abandon it?

I want to sink my teeth into it right now…
No…save it…
No…eat it…
Save…eat…save…

I tried to grab it but it slipped away as The Lady swept me up in her arms and whisked me off.

Now when out on walks I keep a keen eye for another totally fab flapjack like that one in the parking lot, but then this wouldn’t be the story of the random pancake.

Pack of angry Chihuahuas attack officer in Fremont
FREMONT, Calif. (AP) – A pack of angry Chihuahuas attacked a police officer who was escorting a teenager home following a traffic stop, authorities said. The officer suffered minor injuries including bites to his ankle on Thursday when the five Chihuahuas escaped the 17-year-old boy’s home and rushed the officer in the doorway, said Fremont detective Bill Veteran. The teenager had been detained after the traffic incident, Veteran said. The officer was treated at a local hospital and returned to work less than two hours later, Veteran said. It was the third time this month a Fremont officer was bitten by a dog while on duty. Neither of the other officers were seriously injured. And it was the second bizarre incident in as many hours for the Fremont Police Department. Two hours earlier, a homeowner in Niles reported that an intruder broke into her home and added pornography to her computer. The woman said she woke up and was startled to see a stranger typing away on her computer. The intruder fled, but left behind an altered screen saver that featured images of “erotic Indian art,” Veteran said. Nothing was reported stolen, and neither the woman nor her 9-year-old daughter was hurt, he said.

“Erotic indian art? That’s not porn, that’s just bad art.”
