
1st Century AD Cat Mummy, British Museum, London, England
During the time I lived in London, I spent many hours in the British Museum and more specifically in the Egyptian Mummy exhibit which is the most extensive collection in the world. I was fascinated by the cat mummies. It made me think, why not continue to do this today? I could see memorializing ELVIS and Izzy this way with a beautiful sarcophagus. Up until recently, the memorials and urns for pets were seriously ugly and nothing I would want my pet inside of. I started thinking about the mummy idea again after seeing an article on a glass blower who makes pendants with ashes of the deceased swirled on the inside. He has a lot of requests to do the same for people’s pets. I also really love the hand painted urns made from hollowed out gourds that Hungry Holler does, shown below.
