WOW! Cynthia & the Brat Pack!
Thanks for that story...I was thankful that I could get Izzy and Djangito Boy (aka. Junk Yard Devil) in the house before things got really ugly.

ELVIS (who recently lost his sight) was somewhat unaware that he had encountered a skunk 3x his size. By the time i got to him to whisk him away, the skunk was an inch away and looking alarmed with every hair standing on end. Pepe Le Pew was not at all ready to run away but was coming for us!

The peppermint soap worked really well. The smell is still in the house and when you get your nose in ELVIS fur, he still smells skunky but it's a lot better!!!

I forgot to mention that the Brat Pack consists of 3 little dogs & 4 cats - all of whom came from rescue organizations. A couple are "failed fosters" who came, unpacked their bags, found their favorite place to sit & never left.

Thank goodness the cats were not involved in the above incident. They would never have gone along with the cleaning regime so willingly.

Also, we've since learned that the skunk (please don't let it be a mother with kits) is living under my back yard shed. The dogs encountered it again one night. This time Rocky stayed across the yard & barked extremely menacingly (he rarely barks at anyone so this was a big deal), Fast Eddie ran in the house & hid under my bed shaking like a leaf (which he'd never done before). I couldn't get him out of there for half an hour. Sassy (who channels Barbra Streisand) gave the skunk a piece of her mind & stalked back in the house & plunked down on the couch for the rest of the night. It was all beneath her notice.

The only way I got the smell out of my house was by buying the deodorizing rock/sand that they sell in hardware stores and putting some in every room.

Ooooh skunks - phew! One of the Brat Pack, Rocky (3/4 JRT, 1/4 Chi) loves cats. One night about 6 months ago he met a skunk in our back yard & ran over to greet the "new cat". Fast Eddie (chi, terrier, pom x) & Sassy (min poo/shih tzu x) chased after him. There was the inevitable result. Rocky got the full blast & luckily shielded FE & S from the worst of it.

I went online & mixed the potions that people swear by & then put the 3 of them in the bath tub & doused them in the results. I closed the door & left them there for 10 minutes. I just wasn't up to being in close quarters with 3 stinky, wet & slimy dogs. lol

The home-made potions cut the smell by about half, but it wasn't until the next day when I bought a big bottle of skunk deodorizer at a pet store that they began to smell almost normal. My house reeked for weeks afterwards & every time the BP got wet they smelled of skunk. Good luck to you & Elvis!
